World Environment Day – How You Can Help Protect The Environment
June 5
The environment plays a vital role in our survival. Consider this, the environment supplies us with food, water, raw materials, fuel, medicine, shelter, and basically everything else that we need to live a satisfying and happy life.
The environment has become more and more polluted with toxins and contaminants that have harmful effects on our health. For these reasons, is important that we conserve the environment rather than harming it.
World Environment Day (WED) encourages us to protect the environment. Established by the United Nations, it is a day to raise awareness on the same.
The theme for 2022 is ‘Only One Earth‘.
If you are thinking about ways that you could help preserve the environment, here are some simple ideas you may want to consider.
Plant a Tree
Planting trees has many benefits and is a great way to care for the environment.
Among other things, trees help to improve air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. Clean air!
Trees also provide shade, cleaner water, prevent soil erosion and are also homes and natural habitats for wildlife and endangered animals.
Plant a tree in your yard today!
Follow the 3 R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle)
Reduce, reuse, and recycle your waste. Doing this minimizes waste significantly and keeps the environment clean.
To reduce waste, consider using a reusable bottle or cup for your beverages. Further, take a cloth shopping bag to the store instead of using plastic ones. Lastly, recycle. Always separate your trash and make recycling a commitment.
Buy Organic
Whenever possible, choose organic products over inorganic ones.
Organic farming keeps toxic pesticides out of our environment. Organic farming works with nature and not against it. Organic farmers nourish their crops and protect their plants by building healthy soil and bringing in plants and “good” pests that keep the bad ones away thereby making sure their land stays healthy.
Resource Conservation
Conserving resources like water and electricity decreases their use and thereby eliminates waste.
Simple ways to conserve include opting for cold water whenever possible, and warm rather than hot water to save on energy costs. Use ceiling or stand fans instead of air conditioning. Use LEDs bulbs for lighting as they are more energy efficient. Fix leaking pipes and faucets to reduce water waste.
Opt to Travel Smartly
Whenever possible, opt to reduce the frequency of your driving. Good ways to do this include carpooling with family or friends, or taking public transportation. Having fewer cars on the road reduces gas emissions and improves air quality.
