How Do You Love Your Neighbor As Yourself?

The Bible admonishes us to love our neighbors as ourselves. It is the second greatest commandment.

Who are our neighbors? No, its not just the people who live next door to us. Our neighbors are anyone who we encounter over the course of our life. It’s the newspaper guy, the mailman, the cashier at the grocery store, the teller at the bank, the flight attendant or even the mechanic.

So then, if our neighbors are anyone, it means that we should be kind and show love to everyone.

How is this accomplished?

Treat people how you would want to be treated. Think about what your expectations are when you come into contact with someone and aspire to give others the same kind of treatment that you expect.

For example, if you expect to go out to dinner and have a waitress or waiter give you the best service, go to the restaurant with the intent to be the best customer. It is a two-way street. While you are paying for the service, you should still show love and appreciation to the provider.

This is part of what loving our neighbors is all about.

How can I show my neighbors love?

There are many simple ways that we can show love to others. You don’t always have to give someone a gift or spend money to show love. Sometimes, just an encouraging word, or some helpful advice can do the trick.

If you want to go beyond this, donate to a charity, invest in a child who is not your own, or even join up with a charitable organization and do some voluntary work.

The sky is the limit on ways to show love!

How Do You Love Your Neighbor as Yourself?

Jesus taught us the greatest lesson on love by dying on the cross for our sins. He performed miracles throughout his life which by doing so, he showed us how to have compassion for others.

These may not be the Bible days, but the lesson is still the same. Love conquers all. It has the power to heal, it has the power to uplift and above all, love is kind.

Let us all be kind to one another. It does not matter what age, race, sex, religion, or political affiliation we are, what matters is that we treat others how we would want to be treated.

That is what loving others like we love ourselves is all about.
