Easter is a time for reflection and is also the perfect season for family. The stories, games, crafts, treats and time spent together, are just some of the things that make the season so special.

As you celebrate this Easter, make memories this season with these 9 family activities.

Reflect on the meaning of Easter

Easter is a time to reflect on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. While enjoying all the activities that the Easter season provides, families can carve out time read the resurrection story in the Bible or watch films about it. A good watch at Easter for teens and adults is The Passion of the Christ directed by Mel Gibson.

Have an Easter egg hunt

When we think about Easter, an Easter egg hunt is a classic activity that comes to mind. This tradition of hiding plastic eggs filled with yummy treats is enjoyed by both the young and the young at heart. Hide the eggs while no is watching then have fun watching the participants search and collect as many as they can.

Have fun dying Easter eggs

Dying eggs is a fun craft to do with kids at Easter. You can purchase an egg decorating kit or use food coloring for this activity. Using food coloring you will need the following ingredients:

– Hard boiled eggs

– Liquid or gel dye

– 1/2 cup of hot water

– 1 teaspoon of vinegar

Step

– Add a about 10 to 20 drops of food coloring to the hot water.

– Next, add the teaspoon of vinegar (this helps the dye adhere to the egg)

– Next, add the egg to the solution and let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes (depending on how deep you want the color)

– Place your eggs on a wired rack to dry.

Have an egg and spoon race

An egg and spoon race is fun family activity to enjoy the outdoors at Easter. Participants can do a practice run to warm up before their big race. The first person to cross the finish line still holding their egg in the spoon, wins. As a reminder, you want to use hard boiled eggs for this race!

Make hot cross buns

Hot cross buns have been an Easter tradition enjoyed for decades. These buns are traditionally consumed on Good Friday to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus. The hot cross bun marks the end of the season of Lent and different elements of the hot cross bun each have a specific meaning, such as the cross representing the crucifixion of Jesus, the spices inside signifying the spices used to embalm him and sometimes also orange peels reflecting the bitterness of his time on the cross.

Attend a church service

Attend an Easter Sunday morning service with family to hear the good news and to reflect on the death, burial and resurrection of the Savior. After church, spend the remainder of the afternoon enjoying each other’s company.

Have Easter Sunday brunch

Plan to cook up a spread or do a potluck with loved ones on Easter Sunday. Spend the afternoon dining and catching up with loved ones.

Watch movies

Easter is great time to partake of the seasonal movies. A good watch is The Bible series which takes you through the Bible covering events from the Old and New Testaments.

Be a volunteer

Consider volunteering at Easter to gift your time to helping others. Visit a local soup kitchen or a shelter to find out how you can lend a hand.

Make Easter baskets for the kids

This one is an all-time kid favorite. You can choose to make personalized baskets for the little ones at Easter or opt to purchase one that is already made. Either way, the kids will enjoy the surprise of an Easter basket with toys and goodies inside.

Hope these activities help you to both reflect on the Easter season and enjoy making memories with loved ones.

All the best to you.
