The True Meaning Of Christmas

As we exchange gifts with the people we love during the holiday season, we also pause to give thanks to God for giving the world hope and joy through the greatest gift of all; his son, who would later give his life as a ransom for many. This birth of the Savior is the true meaning of Christmas.

A Brief History Of The Birth Of Jesus

The Bible tells the story of the virgin Mary who was impregnated by the Holy Spirit to conceive a child, the Savior of the world.

The baby Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem because at the time that Mary went into labor there was no room in the inn. A manger was used as his cradle.

According to ancient sources, the day when Mary was told that she would give birth to a special child is called the Annunciation which is noted as having occurred on March 25th. The Roman Christian historian Sextus Julius Africanus recorded Jesus’ birth to 9 months after the date of conception, being December 25th. Therefore, December 25th is celebrated as the day of Jesus’ birth referred to as Christmas Day. The name ‘Christmas’ refers to the mass of (Jesus) Christ. During mass services held on Christmas Day, congregants reflect on Jesus’ birth.
