5 Ways To Get Better Sleep
Sleep is essential in helping to keep the body and mind functioning as it should. A good night or day’s rest can help to improve the quality of life as it relates to one’s health. Practicing good sleep habits can help to accomplish this.
From experience, here are 5 ways to get better sleep.
Avoid using electronic devices at bedtime
Turn of the phones, tablets, laptops, or any other electronic device that may be a distraction to you at bedtime. Failure to do so could result in you staying up longer than you should, which will then interfere with the amount of sleep that you actually receive. According to sleepfoundation.org 7 or more hours of sleep is recommended for adults each day.
Avoid daytime napping
Sleeping for prolonged periods in the day can cause you to have problems falling asleep at night. For people who work shifts however, daytime sleeping may be unavoidable. None-the-less, as you work with your sleep schedule, try your best to avoid prolonged napping so that your regular sleep cycle is not thrown off.
Make your bedroom dark and quiet
Turn off all lights in your space including the television, closet, and lamps. If you need to, turn the alarm clock away from you so that the light is not glowing in your direction. Closing the window shades will help to keep the moonlight out. Room darkening panels and shades will do a good job at helping you create a dark space.
Avoid eating large meals before bedtime
Try to eat your last full meal of the day well before bedtime. Among other possible reasons, you don’t want to have your sleep interrupted because of digestive issues. A full stomach may cause you not to be able to fall asleep or, could cause you to have to wake up from your sleep to use the bathroom.
Establish a set bedtime
Make it a habit to go to bed at the same time every night. Being consistent could help you achieve better quality sleep. I find that after a routine is established, the body somehow starts to program when it is time to get its rest. It may take some time but do your best to commit to a routine that suits your lifestyle.
Takeaway
Whenever you can, make it a point to practice good habits so that you can get the best out of your sleep. Your body will thank you.
