How To Keep A Marriage Alive – 5 Tips

Many married couples can agree that over time, married life can become somewhat stagnant. Things fall into a routine, and you get so caught up in work and other time-consuming activities that romance gets somewhat put to the side. The result is you and your spouse unintentionally growing apart.

The truth is, if you cannot recall the last time you and your spouse spent some alone time together or even had just a nice talk, this may be an indication that it’s time for a change.

Read on for 5 tips that could help you keep your marriage alive.

Plan a set date night

Do you remember your first date and the period of dating that followed? After a while the date nights in a marriage usually begin to dwindle.

You don’t have to let it though. Plan a set night for you and your spouse to go out on a date. One night a week that you can both look forward to spending time with each other, would be awesome. If you can, try to make it a day or night when you both have a clear schedule so that you can always have that particular day to look forward to. Take in a movie, go out to dinner, or go for a stroll and picnic in the park. For some added fun, try attempting to recreate your first date!

Whatever you decide, date nights help to keep the spark in a marriage and helps to bring married couples closer together.

Use the words, ‘I love you’

Sometimes we take for granted what these 3 simple words can do. Every spouse wants to feel loved. Showing it is one half of the equation and saying it is the other. Hearing these words just reaffirms a person’s true feelings. It is very romantic to hear. You can even send a ‘I love you’ text to your spouse when you are away from each other. It’s just as effective.

Oh, the power of love!

Plan occasional getaways

Well, we all know that ladies love to travel. So, it’s a no brainer that even a weekend getaway would be a fantastic occasion. Go and get away from it all. A change in scenery can really set the tone for romance.

A getaway does not always have to be out of state either. Checking into a nice hotel in your area for the weekend and enjoying the pampering (no cleaning) and dining together can do the trick. Enjoy each other’s company and act like tourists If you want to!

Getaways are a great way to keep that spark in a marriage.

Create a ritual together

A ritual can be created no matter the length of time that a couple has been married.

Creating rituals or traditions together is a great way to keep a marriage going. Holiday traditions are a great idea and can include anything from baking cookies on Christmas Eve, to participating in caroling, to buying each other a funny gift to open on Christmas morning. Year-round rituals can be having a picnic at the park at 5pm every Saturday or sitting at the same table every time you go to a regular eatery.

Making memories together is the perfect way to keep a marriage alive.

Turn work off at home

Don’t allow your work life to consume you.

Focus on home matters when you are at home and leave your work for the office or the start of the next workday. Create a balance in your life so that work does not get in the way of your marriage.  Never allow the stress of work to come home with you. Focus on your home life when you are at home so that your spouse sees and knows that you are committed to and focused on your relationship.

This will create a heathier marriage and will produce a happier you as well.
