8 Things You Should Not Do On A First Date
Anyone ever had a first date that went all wrong. I guess you can refer to it as a bad first date. Well, if this is you or if you have an approaching first date, read on to learn about 8 things you should avoid doing.
If you want to make a good impression, do not do the following:
1. Show up late
Being late can insinuate that you have no respect for your time as well as others. While things can happen during the course of the day that may affect your time, try your endeavor best to work out all the kinks to help avoid this.
2. Keep checking your phone
It’s very rude to keep doing this and shows your date that you are less interested in them. Place your phone on silent. Don’t let your device ruin what could be.
3. Talk about past relationships
If you do this, it will likely show your date that you are not over your ex. Do not ramble about how awful your last relationship was. Focus on creating new relationships which is the purpose of the date, right?
4. Swear
Not everyone appreciates someone with a potty mouth. If you swear excessively, it may spell limited vocabulary and can also appear rude to the wrong person. If you are someone who ‘curses like a sailor’ it’s probably best that you save those words for some other event, definitely not for a first date.
5. Be rude to the wait staff
Let’s face it, no one likes to be disrespected and seeing someone do it to others delivers the same blow. Don’t act like an idiot! If you do, you could even potentially cause your date to be cut sort. Period.
6. Be too affectionate
Don’t touch your date inappropriately and never try something like stealing a kiss especially if the vibes of the date are not flowing in that direction. Doing these things can make you appear to be someone who is coming on too strong and could potentially cancel out any hope for a second date.
7. Take over the conversation
When your date is talking, you listen. Then you speak, and your date will listen. This is the way the communication should flow. Never take over the conversations by continuously speaking. While you may be itching to tell your date about yourself from start to finish, it’s probably best to let them get a word in. It may be a good idea to save some of your chatter so that you can have something to talk about on the second and third dates!
8. Look upkept
If you can avoid it, try to set a date time that allows you the opportunity to go home after a long day’s work to shower and spruce up before your date. Now, in the eyes of some women, a man with some work dirt on him may be very attractive. Kudos to all the hard-working men, and women out there. The goal however is to make a good first impression and let your date see how well you clean up after a day of hard work.
Hope this guide is helpful to you in some way. Avoid doing these things, and you should be on your way to a good start.
