5 Ways To Save Money While Traveling

Planning your next trip? Check out these 5 tips that can save you money!

1. Book longer stays and get discounts

Book longer stays on platforms like Airbnb, and you can get longer stay discounts and save money. You may also notice that some hotels will give you a better rate if you stay a full week rather than just a few days. Do your research before you travel and grab hold of the best offers available to you.

2. Book stays where you can cook more

If you avoid eating out all the time, you will see huge savings!

If you travel for more than 3 days, it is likely that you will see your food totals adding up. Try looking for accommodations that include a kitchen or kitchenette (with a stove) so that you can prepare meals for you and your family.

Airbnb and Extended Stay Hotels are 2 examples of places where you can find these types of accommodations.

3. Plan to travel in the off-season

For starters, Christmas is not the off season, neither is New Years.

You will find that hotels offer reasonable rates during the off-season because they want to increase their occupancy and fill their properties. Some airlines take a similar stance and many offer lower rates in the off-season.

Avoid traveling in peak seasons and experience the savings.

4. Create a daily budget

A daily budget is a great way to keep track of what you are spending while traveling. Set a budget of what you intend to spend for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Then, add an additional smaller amount to cover snacks for the day.  You can take this approach if you are traveling alone or with your family. If traveling with family, customize the budget for adults and children. Oh, and do your best to stick to it!

5. Search for the best fight prices

Be sure to compare flight costs across different airlines. Look at what flights will cost less at particular times of the year. Based on price, opt to take your vacation at that time and save a few dollars.

You may also find that generally, some flight times cost less than others. For example, departing on an afternoon flight may provide a lower rate than a morning flight. If it’s feasible, book the cheaper fare and take advantage of the savings.
